Crossroads of the South Pacific, Fiji has over 300 islands with a mixture of Melanesian, Polynesian, Chinese and Indian and European cultures that creates a vibrant mixture with its own unique history and traditions:
Climate – hot wet summers (May to October) with an average temperature of 25º, and warm dry Winters ( November to April) with the cyclone period occurring during this time. Temperature can vary across the islands, however. Water temperature is 25º-28º generally.
Transport – Fairly good sealed road system around much of the main islands. Major rental Car dealers represented. Left-hand drive. Local Bus services operate and there are local regular inter-island ferry services as well as some cargo and passenger ships that visit.
Airlines – International airport in Nadi, with Air Pacific and Air New Zealand as main international air travel operators, Sun Air and Air Fiji being the domestic air operators.
– Travel down to Kadavu for scuba diving around the Astrolabe Reef and surfing
– Take a trip to Taveuni with its magnificent rainforests, waterfalls and coconut plantations – scuba diving off the Rainbow reef is a must!
– Visit the former capital of Levuka
– Take a day tour to the Mamanuca islands for dolphins, snorkelling an a view of the numerous tiny islands in the area
– Visit a traditional thatched village of Navala
– Take a tour along the Navua River in East Viti Levu in a motorised canoe or a traditional bamboo raft (bilibili)
